Zirconium (Zr) in plasma

Zirconium gives the thinnest cord in the collection: a hard white-lilac rope rather than a band, sharp enough to trace its exact path, hanging inside a flask flooded violet. In several vessels it refuses to close into a circle at all and knots itself into loops and figure-eights. Zirconium's own lines cluster in the blue and green between 442 and 516 nm; the cord still reads white because at that brightness it simply saturates the camera.

Initial substance: zirconium oxychloride
