Sodium (Na) in plasma

Sodium fills the flask with a single colour: the D doublet at 589 nm dominates so completely that the discharge is very nearly monochromatic and everything the light falls on is rendered in shades of amber. Over tens of hours the vapour also lays a white film on the glass, and the vessel slowly goes blind.
